How can Massage help me?

Massage therapy is a form of hands-on treatment that manipulates the soft tissues of the body to help relieve pain, reduce stress and tension, and increase relaxation. A trained massage therapist applies varying degrees of pressure and movement to the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and skin. This manipulation helps to release tight muscles and trigger points, improving circulation and reducing pain. We use massage therapy to help:

  • Lower back pain

  • Reduce frequency of chronic headaches

  • Sports injuries

  • Reduce stress and blood pressure

  • Relieve pain and muscle tension

  • Induce relaxation

  • Improve immune function

What should I expect during my massage appointment?

During your massage appointment, you can expect to be in a quiet, relaxing environment where you'll lie down on a massage table while fully clothed or covered with a sheet and blanket. Your therapist will begin by asking you about any specific areas of pain or tension you'd like them to focus on, as well as your preferred pressure level. The massage therapist will then use their hands to apply pressure to the muscles, working to relieve tension and promote relaxation. You may feel some discomfort at times, but your therapist will adjust the pressure to ensure it is comfortable for you. It is important to communicate with your therapist throughout the session to ensure you are getting the best experience. After the massage, your therapist will likely ask you to take a moment to stretch, hydrate and rest before leaving. Overall, a massage session should leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Should I get a massage or see a Chiropractor?

Many of our clients suffer from acute pain and require chiropractic adjustments. Often, they wonder if they can go to a Chiropractor after a massage. You can experience better and longer lasting results by combining massage therapy with chiropractic treatments. A massage can complement your chiropractic session by releasing tension around your joints, making it easier for your Chiropractor to perform an adjustment. On the flip side, massage can also relax the muscle around the newly aligned joint resulting in a longer hold. Belmont Wellness Center partners with Belmont Chiropractic Center for integrative chiropractic care, offering back-to-back appointments in the same building. Contact us to see if you would achieve better results by getting a massage before OR after the chiropractor.
